2010/10/15 Bitter Melon & Simmered Sardine

I met a vegetable garden neighbor who came from south America this morning. She grows bitter melon in her garden and gave me one green bitter melon and three yellow bitter melon which already totally ripped. I never saw yellow ripped bitter melon before and she showed me how to taste the red seeds. Actually these red seeds are sweet!  She gave me these ripped bitter melon for the seeds plant next year.

I got some sardines at Japanese grocery and just scaled them.
















Simmer with plum pickles, ginger, soy sauce, water, mirin, sake in a pressure cooker for 15 minutes.

Cooked sardine/bones are very soft and eatable.

San Jose tofu which is locally made fresh every day in San Jose Japan town. Garnish with grated ginger and thin sliced green onion. Just add soy sauce and very tasty. This is the traditional way to taste tofu in Japan.
